Background and Education

Hey!

I’m Stephanie Kasprzyk. I’m a photographer, product designer, and artist. I am a recent graduate (Class of 2023 (Winter)) from the College for Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit, Michigan. At CCS, I majored in Product Design and minored in both Photography and Creative Entrepreneurship.

I started CCS Undeclared, but within my semester declared Product Design, however throughout my 2nd and 3rd year (and the Covid Void), that passion was subconsciously redirected to the photography I’d already been doing for years. 3rd year of college, I declared my photography minor and haven’t really looked back since. Although I’ve strayed from designing products, I found more interest in photographing them, as well as sports, wildlife, and humans.

Professional Role

I have spent the summers (and less busy moments sprinkled throughout the school year) of 2022 and 2023 with Accurate Technologies, Inc. (ATI) in Novi, Michigan. I began at ATI as a Design Intern in May of 2022, but I have since been hired full-time starting in January of 2024. Now, as a Design Specialist, I do product photography, interspersed product design, graphic design and marketing, and the occasional event planning. I am creating a new portfolio of product imagery for the company, including photography and videography of current, past, and future products, as well as how they are applied in the industry. When needed, I’ll step in to assist in designing the physical products. Understanding the products – their functions and features – allows me to better photograph and market them. I also will be working on rebranding ATI as a more ‘premium’ brand, which will include upgrading print and digital content, social media, and their website.

Outside of class at CCS, I worked as a Teacher’s Assistant for 4 years. Along side the instructor, I helped change and mold the curriculum of the course – intended to introduce first-time college students to college life – to be more effective than the provided plans. We rearranged assignments, reconstructed class time and activities to better suit the needs and learning outcomes of the class, not to mention, making work more hands-on and enjoyable for the students.

I also have 8 years of experience being a hockey photography. Because my younger brother played youth hockey for many years, I would attend his games (being the great older sister I am). I would see photographers taking and selling photos at tournaments and figured I could do that, too, but for free. So, I did! In the process, I learned how to take sports photos – learning how to time the shutter with the action, predict play, and working through uncontrollable elements like lighting, players, and location.

Mission Statement

I love connecting people to people and people to things through photography. Seeing parents react to photos of their child playing sports or seeing their child’s Senior Photos or people relating to the emotion or story being told in a series has really inspired me as a photographer. How is this image going to affect the viewer? Do I want them to want this product? Or to feel or connect to something bigger than just what is objectively displayed?

My experience through teaching, photography, product design, marketing, and graphic design, has allowed me to observe how other humans think and react to visual content and storytelling. How to select the best, most important moments to show. Which moments will speak most to the viewer? Which moments will make my images most memorable?
